Thank you for taking the beginner’s checklist tour.

Getting down to the act !

A definitive answer to all these questions constitutes the beginner’s checklist for starting a nonprofit organization.

To summarize, before you begin with the process for starting a nonprofit organization , you need to be clear on these 5  issues –

1) The Purpose – articulated in the form of mission statement.

2) Whether the organization would be a ‘public benefit’, ‘mutual benefit’ or a ‘religious’ organization ?

3) Whether or not tax exemption would be sought ?

4) Whether or not it will be incorporated ?

5) Whether or not the organization will have members and if so, will they have voting rights to elect the board ?

These 5 decisions should not be taken in a hurry ,(not the way we did now) but should be deliberated with the entire group memmbers.
